Renaissance Percussion ensemble

Founded in 2005, the Renaissance Percussion ensemble performs both domestically and abroad. The ensemble's achievements include the 1st place at the International Ensemble Competition. S.V. Rachmaninov in St. Petersburg.


"Renaissance Percussion" consistently applies an innovative approach in creating concert programs

The ensemble's repertoire includes pieces of many styles and genres, but the basis is classics and film music. The pieces of the greats are performed in instrumental arrangement by the ensemble members themselves.

During the concert there is an impressive number of percussion instruments on stage, making the overall sound incredibly varied.

The team works closely with leading opera soloists, brass ensembles, and excellent musicians playing various instruments.

  • Arseniy Shuplyakov

    In 2005, together with Vladislav Ivanov, created the Renaissance Percussion ensemble.

    In 2005 and 2012, as part of the ensemble, became a laureate of the International Competition named after. S.V. Rachmaninov.

    In 2017, the ensemble took part in the premiere of the ballet “Dreamers” on the stage of the Mariinsky-2. Author of a number of works, transcriptions and arrangements for percussion instruments.

    In 2001, as part of the Sergei Kuryokhin festival SKIF, performed together with Pierre Merlin and the Gong group.

  • Tatiana Cheryomukhina
    Born in St. Petersburg. In 1995 graduated with honors from the St. Petersburg Music College named after. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, class of P.A.Krichashvili, and became a laureate of the International Competition for Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments in Volgograd.
    In 1999 became a laureate of the Republican competition in Kazan.
    In 2000 graduated with honors from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, class of A.A.Mikhailov.
    In 2000 won the All-Russian competition in St.Petersburg, receiving an invitation to an internship at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
    At the Amsterdam Conservatory studied under the guidance of Jan Pustens (snare drum), Marinus Comst (timpani) and Lorenzo Ferrandiz (marimba).
    In 2001, took part in master classes by the outstanding marimba performer, the creator of the method of playing this instrument, Leigh Howard Stevens (USA).
    Since 2000 member of the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra and teaches at the Secondary Specialized Music School at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
    Takes active part in concert activities in Russia and abroad, performing on radio and television.
  • Grigory Zhuravlev
    Studied drums from early childhood.
    Graduated from the Lyceum of Arts “St. Petersburg”, class of Honored Cultural Worker B.I.Estrin.
    In 2017 graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory. N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov, class of Professor A. A. Mikhailov.
    Assistant-trainee at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, class of Professor A.A. Mikhailov.
    Winner of the Prize of the Government of St. Petersburg (2008, 2009, 2010), as well as the Prize of the President of the Russian Federation (2010). Participated in master classes by recognized masters of drumming, such as Peter Sadlo and Nebojsa Zivkovic.
    Currently transcribing music for a percussion ensemble.
    Since 2013 an artist in the percussion section of the Mariinsky Theatre.
  • Fedor Khandrikov
    Born on November 24, 1992, student of the ZRKRF P.A.Krichashvili.
    Laureate of the St. Petersburg Government Prize.
    2009-2010 Laureate of the All-Russian competition and international competitions.
    Held a series of solo concerts in Bayreuth, Germany.
    Regularly undergoes internships and advanced training with world-class soloists: Peter Sadlo (2015+), Marinus Comst (Concertgebouw Orchestra), Nick Waud (Concertgebouw Orchestra) Raymond Kurfs (Bavarian Radio Orchestra).
    Since 2012, soloist of the SPB Percussion Group ensemble.
    Since 2012 performed as a guest artist of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra.
    Since 2013, member of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra.
    Since 2013, soloist of the Renaissance Percussion ensemble.
    Since 2018, timpanist of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra.
  • Evgeniy Zhikalov
    Born on August 13, 1979 in musical family& Father was a tenor soloist of the Kirov (Mariinsky) Theater, mother is a philologist, a teacher of French, German and English in a specialized school.
    In 1987 entered the music school at the conservatory.
    In 1998 he entered the Conservatory.
    Winner of the Yamaha Award for Best Student 2001.
    In 2000 he entered the Mariinsky Theater under the direction of V. Gergiev.
    In 2000 became a Laureate of the International Competition as part of the Brass Ensemble of the Mariinsky Theater.
    Together with V. Ivanov and A. Shuplyakov founded the Renaissance Percussion ensemble.
    Soloist of the Mariinsky Theater.
  • Mikhail Vedunkin
    Born in 1984 in Moscow.
    At the age of six began musical training on the piano, and a year later on percussion instruments.
    During studies at the music school, repeatedly became a laureate and winner of various children's competitions for performers on percussion instruments. Took an active part in concert activities, both solo and as part of the exemplary orchestra of the St. Petersburg Children's Art School No. 1 named after G. Sviridov.
    At the age of 14 he entered the St. Petersburg Music College named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, class of S.I. Terekhov, and then to the Conservatory, class of Professor A.A. Mikhailov.
    Since 2009, an artist of the Mariinsky Theater orchestra.
    During his time working in the theater under the direction of maestro V. Gergiev, took part in the recording of more than twenty audio and video discs, some of which were nominated for a Grammy Award, and also received other musical and theatrical awards. Travelled with the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra in the USA, Canada, Europe and the Asian region.
    In 2012, as part of the Renaissance Percussion ensemble, became the winner of the V International Competition named after. S.V. Rachmaninov.
  • Vladimir Maslov
    Graduated from the St. Petersburg Music College named after. N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, class of teacher P.A. Krichashvili. Then the St. Petersburg State Conservatory N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, class of teacher V.V. Znamensky
    As a guest artist, collaborated with almost all orchestras and theaters in St. Petersburg.
    In 2011 began working at the Mariinsky Theater, and in 2013 was invited to join the Renaissance percussion ensemble.
  • Dmitry Fedorov
    Born in Leningrad.
    In 2002 graduated from the SSMS-Lyceum at the Conservatory N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov in the class of percussion instruments, teacher P.A. Krichiashvili.
    In 2007 graduated from the Conservatory N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, teacher V.V. Znamensky.
    From 2003 to 2013 he worked as an orchestra artist at the State Academic Capella of St. Petersburg.
    From 2009 to 2013 he worked at the State Budgetary Educational Institution “Musical Lyceum of the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg as a teacher of percussion instruments.
    D.A. Fedorov’s students have repeatedly become laureates and diploma winners at international competitions.
    Since 2013, D.A. Fedorov has been working at the State Academic Mariinsky Theater.
  • Gleb Logvinov
    Born in 1988 in the city of Pushkin, Leningrad.
    From 1995 to 2003 studied playing percussion instruments at the music school named after A.Akhmatova, class of teacher A. Artamoshkin.
    From 2003 to 2007 studied at the N. Rimsky-Korsakov Music College, class of teacher S. Terekhov.
    In 2006 received a diploma at an international competition.
    From 2007 to 2012 studied percussion art at the St. Petersburg Conservatory N. Rimsky-Korsakov in the class of teacher V. Znamensky.
    From 2007 to 2013, teacher of percussion instruments at the music school named after. A. Akhmatova.
    Since 2008, artist of the St. Petersburg Conservatory orchestra.
    From 2010 to 2013, artist of the St. Petersburg State Academy of Music Orchestra.
    Since 2013, member of the orchestra of the State Mariinsky Theater.
  • Dmitry Gabbasov
    In 2011 graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Rimsky-Korsakov.
    Since 2013, member of the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra.
  • Vladislav Ivanov
    Born on March 14, 1973 in Leningrad in musition family.
    In 1991 graduated from the Choir School. M.I.Glinka.
    In the period from 1994 to 1999 received education at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the class of percussion instruments with Professor A.V. Ivanov.
    Worked in the orchestras of the Academic Capella and the St. Petersburg Chamber Opera.
    Since 2004 a member of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra.
    At various times he took an active part in the ensembles: “Vivat, drums!”, “Saint-Petersburg Percussion Group”, “Russian Brass”, large breaststroke of the Mariinsky Theater.
    Since 2005, performing as a member of the percussion ensemble at the Mariinsky Theater “Renaissance Percussion”, writing arrangements and transcriptions for percussion and brass ensembles.
